Due to the thinness of the Jeep unibody, we've designed our long-arm kits to be completely bolt-on. Although it is possible to weld to the unibody, the longevity of the weld in questionable. The unibody is only 16 guage (.060 in.) and the heat of a weld stresses the thin metal. The weld may not crack but the unibody around it may. The unibody is welded from the factory, however, robot controlled welding is done complete with heat sensors creating welds much more exact than a human is capable of. Our bolt-on systems are not only more durable but are also much easier to install. Our clamped/sleeved mounting system uses 1"x3/16" thick tubes thru the unibody which creates a larger surface area that distributes any stress over a larger area than a weld-on installation. In addition, we use adjustable control arms that not only allow easy caster adjustment but also allow pivot points for flex further eliminating any stress on the unibody mounts. The Rusty's Off Road 8.5 long travel suspension is over 4 years of designing and testing, we have applied race technology that delivers articulation that keeps your tires on the ground, even over the most radical terrain. Surprisingly this kit bolts on to the uni-frame with minor drilling. NO WELDING is required or recommend. The front uses radius style arms and are completely adjustable, both the long lower as well as the upper link. Rusty's Forged Flex Joints are at the adjustable end and factory rubber control arm bushings at the axle end insures great strength, flexibility, this assures you no noise and no vibes transmitted through the uni-frame. Rusty's arms are constructed of massive 2 inch diameter D.O.M. tubing. This assures you that you will not damage the arms on any rocks or ledges. The new radius style arms bolt to a completely new 3/16 & 1/4 thick steel, laser cut and CNC formed cross member that is surrounded by Rusty's new frame reinforcement. The 3/16 & 1/4 laser cut reinforcement brackets are located both on the outside and the inside of the uni-frame. These brackets basically sandwich the uni-frame, tying the uni-frame and the new cross member together. Doing this distributes the load over a much larger area of the uni-frame. Rusty's high quality 8.5 coils springs, complete 6.5 leaf spring packs, grade 8 U-bolts and heavy duty 3/8 extended shackles are used in the rear. NO Lift Blocks! Rusty's heavy duty trac bar, frame mount and frame brace keeps the body centered and adds strength to the uni-frame. Rusty's 3 inch drop pitman arm is used to keep the steering straight and to keep from binding the tie rod ends under extreme flex. The Rusty's Kevlar stainless steel brake lines offer better brake performance and give the extra length for that extra suspension travel. JKS Quicker disconnects are used for maximum flex off road and can be re-mounted in just seconds for great on road handling. Rusty's Hydro shocks give a quality ride and an emphasis on off road performance. When raising the XJ Jeep vehicle 5 inch or more, Rusty's highly recommends the use of an Advance Adapter's SYE, slip yoke eliminator, to prevent any driveline vibrations. For '87-'89 XJ Cherokees with the manual transmissions, most used a Peugot transmission. You will simply need to drill holes to match the Peugot using the mount as a template.
