Dana 30 Reverse-Cut axles are found in many 84-01 Jeep XJ Cherokees, 87-95 Jeep YJ Wranglers, and some 84-91 Jeep Grand Wagoneers. The easiest way to identify a reverse-cut axle is by verifying the position of the pinion. If the pinion is positioned above the centerline of the axle tubes, then it is reverse-cut. If it is below the centerline of the axle tubes, then it is standard rotation.
Note that the Dana 30 has a carrier split between 3.55 and 3.73. When changing from a higher (numerically lower) gear ratio to a lower (numerically higher) gear ratio, you will need a low ratio carrier. For example, if you currently have a Dana 30 with 3:55 or higher (3.07, 2.73, etc) gears and are swapping to a lower (3.73, 4.10. 4.56, etc) ratio, you will need a low ratio carrier #8126496. Low Ratio Carriers are available in our Low Ratio Carrier section.
