Most of the early model CJ kits are built much like horse and buggy systems: very stiff, thick leafs and no flex at all. Most of the aftermarket suspension designs for the early model Jeeps have not changed in years, and a few are are even using the same design that they developed over 25 years ago!
When Rusty's decided to develop a kit for the old iron, we applied the same design characteristics that we put into our proven YJ Wrangler kit. The Rusty's suspension kit for early CJs provides 3 inches of lift and substantially improves ride and the handling over the stock suspension. The leaf springs used in this kit feature tapered leaf ends with anti-friction pads, which allows the individual leafs to easily slide against one another as the spring pack flexes. The leafs have also been shot peened to further reduce stress. Rusty's was also sure to build in a flat axle seat area so the axles stay secure and won't "wrap up" under hard acceleration. We even include steel 6-degree rear axle shims to correct driveline angle, which is yet another Rusty's exclusive. This design and construction provides the ride quality you'd normally expect in much newer Jeep vehicles!
In addition to the four leaf springs, the kit includes front and rear u-bolts and a set of Rusty's Hydro Performance Shocks. All of the parts are backed by Rusty's limited lifetime warranty and are manufactured in North America.
