Rusty's XJ Competition 4-Link Suspension System is designed specifically for racing applications; this system is NOT intended to replace Rusty's proven Long Arm kit. Instead, this system is designed to withstand the extremes of off-road racing, such as the JeepSpeed series. Why change the design? Well, Rusty himself has a passion for racing and he wanted to design a system that would be exceptionally strong in high-speed situations while providing the most wheel travel.
The Competition System uses control arm frame brackets that wrap around the unibody and the uniframe; the design interlocks the two and spread the suspension loads over a large area of both. The brackets are constructed of 1/4" laser-cut steel that is then CNC formed for a precision fit. The inner floor plates are contructed of 1/8" steel for even more strength. The massive lower arms are constructed of 2" diameter heavy-wall DOM tubing, while the upper arms are constructed of 1.50" DOM. Both the upper and lower arms use high-quality 1.25" heim joints. Please note that the heim joints are exceptionally strong but are not rebuildable; if this is a concern, then perhaps Rusty's traditional long-arm system with rebuildable Forged Flex Joints is a better option.
Many questions have been asked about running this system as a three-link rather than a four-link. While Rusty's suggests installing the kit as designed, some have decided to run the kit with a single upper control arm with success.
For '87-'89 XJ Cherokees with the manual transmissions, most used a Peugot Transmission. Vehicles equipped with the Peugot Transmission require modifications for fitment of the Rusty's Competition Four Link System. Contact us for further on details!
Please Note: All kit components come powdercoated in flat black and are NOT raw steel as shown in the pictures.
